Our Story…or should we say storey?
2025 has seen the New Storey pub come back to life after 7 years of closure, and this is all down to the hard work and dedication of its new owners, Michelle and Russell.
Previously known as The Storey Arms, the pub has long had a central role to play in the Osgathorpe community, and it was this community that inspired Michelle and Russell to take on bringing the pub back to its former glory.
Historical records show that there may have once been two pubs on the site where the New Storey now stands; called the ‘Cock & Mitten’ and the ‘Seven Stars’. The building that you can now see may have been originally built as a farm house, but was opened in 1842 as ‘The Storer’s Arms’. And in 1910 it was renamed ‘The Story Arms’ after the Lord of the Manor, John Bainbrigge Story. However, legend has it that when the signage was created the sign-maker misspelt the name as ‘The Storey Arms’.
So, as a nod to its past, but to signal a new era in the pubs legacy, Michelle and Russell have updated the name to ‘The New Storey’.
